Hints and Tips

Update January 2022:

When installing ALL G3 ( Generation 3 ) products its possible to have up to 128 PIXIE Master devices in a single PIXIE Home.

  • If using a PIXIE Gateway, this requires a SGW3/BTAM – Gen3 PIXIE Gateway.

If using a combination of G1 to G3 products the exact system limit is somewhat variable.

The most important factor to ensure the largest number of devices can be accommodated in a project is to ensure that at each switching point at least 1 G3 device is present so that a G3 network is installed throughout the home.

This is for Master PIXIE Devices only and does not count Secondary devices such as Multifunction Controllers (SMF/BTAS) or Multiway switches (S2W/BTAS), STC/BT Timer controllers, Translator controllers or any other PIXIE secondary device.

A typical PIXIE home using PIXIE for most home automation tasks, will have between 25-40 Master devices and around 10-15 Secondary devices, depending on the number of load circuits requiring control and special functions needed such as scenes and timers.

  • With the addition of a PIXIE Gateway, users can create multiple homes and with the PIXIE PLUS App switch between homes to control devices, groups and scenes from the App.
  • So, for example in a multi-story large home where the number of Master devices would exceed the recommended system dimensions, each level could represent a new home.
  • In this case each home/level would have its own PIXIE Gateway and it would have its own set of schedules, devices, groups and scenes.

This operation is explained in detail in later Lessons.

PIXIE Secondary devices do not need to be added to the App during the initial device discovery process and do not appear in the list of PIXIE devices.

Only PIXIE Master devices are added to the Apps during setup, saving time on-site.

The Secondary devices are still configured using the PIXIE Apps, and form part of the Bluetooth Mesh network as well, assisting to create a denser mesh for more consistent control.

So a large home would need to be considered mulktiple homes. For example upstairs is 1 home and downstairs is another home. How does this look on the app?
